OHIO – Governor’s State of the State Address

Yesterday, Gov. John Kasich gave his State of the State address. He offered no specifics — just a lot of platitudes.

But one line he said was particularly troubling and should be troubling to every Ohioan who cares about the future of middle class families. Kasich said, “If you think you have seen a lot of change in the first seven weeks, you ain’t seen nothing yet.”

What we have seen in the past seven weeks has been nothing short of a multi-pronged attack by Gov. Kasich and the GOP Ohio Senate and GOP Ohio House who have proposed eliminating collective bargaining, rolling back a woman’s right to choose, ending overtime pay, gutting education, raising the retirement age and a long list of anti-middle class legislation.

Stay tuned for more on this topic. But to try to get this stopped, contact your state representatives and tell him/her that if they want your vote in the next election, they better take care of their constituents, not ‘gut’ them.

A SAD DAY FOR OHIO’s CITIZENS

VN:F [1.9.13_1145]
Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)

By a single vote, the Republicans in the Ohio Senate approved a bill that will weaken the middle class, kill jobs and destroy communities.

Yesterday was a sad day for Ohio, but today the fight must continue.

In the past three weeks, thousands upon thousands of Ohio Citizens rallied at the Statehouse, wrote letters to the editor and made phone calls.

These efforts have been nothing short of remarkable, and we can’t let up.

Because of our Ohio Citizens hard work, six Republicans broke ranks and sided with all ten Democrats in voting against the bill. We came closer to defeating this bill than any of the pundits thought possible. And we sent a loud and clear message to the Republicans that the people of Ohio do not support their reckless agenda. While we fell one vote short of killing Senate Bill 5, the battle is far from over.

Should John Kasich sign this awful legislation it into law, the Ohio Democratic Party will work with our friends in labor to wage a referendum campaign. That effort will require the collection of more than 230,000 signatures and a major statewide campaign in which millions of dollars will be spent. And we will work to defeat all Republicans who turned their backs on Ohio’s police, firefighters, teachers and other public servants.

Stay tuned for more information as this saga continues to unfold.

Rating: 10.0/10 (1 vote cast)

Ohio ICThe Industrial Commission (IC) of Ohio conducts over 180,000 hearings annually and most of these hearings take place within 45 days of the original claim appeal.  Since 1912, the IC has been resolving issues between parties who have a dispute in a workers’ compensation claim. Can This Be Happening in Ohio? – OUTRAGEOUS Settlement Requirement

“should any part of . . . my settlement or this agreement be challenged and found to be unconstitutional, unlawful, or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, the settlement and this acknowledgement and waiver shall remain in full force and effect.”

My fingers are buring  as I type this entry. I am outraged by the current actions of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation – not only in the recent low-balling of lump sum settlement top offers, but , insult on injury, requiring Ohio Injured Workers to sign the attached document.
